What is Thatcham?

Thatcham is a governing body who test all car alarms. They go through a number of stringent policies and tests to ensure that all car alarms meet certain criteria and pass investigations. Once issued with a pass number they are then listed on the insurance companies records as being recognized approved alarms.

What's the difference between Cat 1 and Cat 2?

A Thatcham Category One to give it it's full version is an alarm and immobiliser that has passed thatcham and been approved by insurance companies. A Cat 2 is only an immobiliser ( no alarm ).

What if I already have a factory fitted Cat 2 on my car? No problem there is now a Cat 2-1 which is an add on to your existing immobiliser. It is an alarm which links into your already fitted immobiliser making your security system a Cat 1.
